Will:
This is the last Will and Testament of me James Pettit of Stagsden in the County of Bedford farmer made this first day of March one thousand eight hundred and seventy two.
I appoint my son George Pettit and Samuel Barker of North Crawley in the County of Buckingham farmer executors to this my will.
I bequeath to my son John Pettit three hundred pounds and to the children living at my death of my late daughter Mary Whitmee deceased three hundred pounds to be equally divided between them and to my son William Pettit one hundred pounds the said legacies to be paid within six calendar months of my decease.
I bequeath to my said son George Pettit all my live and dead farming stock and all the effects of every description upon my farm at Stagsden aforesaid and all my interest in the said farm.
I devise all my real estate as well freehold as copyhold (except all estates vested in me as a Trustee or Mortgagee) unto my wife Mary Pettit for the term of her natural life and after her decease I devise the same unto my said sons George Pettit and William Pettit their heirs and assigns in equal shares as tenants in common.
I bequeath the residue of my personal estate unto the said George Pettit and Samuel Barker their executors administrators and assigns Upon Trust to convert the same into money and invest the moneys so to raise upon Government or real security in England or in English Railway Debentures or Debenture Stock (with power to vary such investments) and to pay the annual produce of such investments unto my said wife Mary Pettit during her natural life and on her decease I direct my Trustees or Trustees for the time being to stand possessed of the said investments and the annual produce thereof In Trust for and to divide the same equally between my said sons George Pettit and William Pettit in equal shares as tenants in common.
And I declare that in case any child or grandchild of mine shall die in my lifetime leaving issue such issue shall take (or equally between them if more than one) the legacy and share of residue respectively which their respective parents would have taken if living at my decease.
I devise all real estate vested in me as a Trustee or Mortgegee unto my said son George Pettit and the said Samuel Barker their heirs and assigns subject to the equities affecting the same.
I revoke all former wills.
I witness thereof I have hereunder subscribed my name the day and year first before written.
Signed by the said James Pettit the Testator as and for his last Will and Testament in the presence of us, present at the same time, who in his and each others presence and at his request have hereunder subscribed our names as Witnesses, the same having first read over and explained to the said Testator.
