The Brotherhood Movement

The Brotherhood Movement

The Brotherhood Movement was an organization in the Socialist tradition of the Free Churches, aimed at the reform of society on Christian lines. The basic premise of the Brotherhood was that “... Christianity is chiefly concerned with man's brotherly relation to man, and with the redemption through human effort of every sphere of man's activity on earth”

They published the magazine “Outlook”, bearing their badge and a quotation One is your master, even Christ, and all ye are brethren. [Matt. 23 verse 8], which I take to be their motto and the source of their name.

The Colchester Branch had its last meeting 22 March 1964, as reported in the Essex County Standard
