Tracie Andrews to appeal murder conviction

A jury heard that the mother-of-one murdered her fiance then appeared at a press conference pleading for the killer to be caught Tracie Andrews, the woman who was jailed for life for the roadside murder of her fiancé has been granted leave to appeal against her conviction.

The 28-year-old former model was found guilty by a unanimous verdict at Birmingham Crown Court last summer.

During the trial jurors heard how Lee Harvey, 25, suffered more than 30 stab wounds. He bled to death next to his car in an isolated country lane near the couple's home in Alvechurch, Worcestershire.

Miss Andrews has always maintained her innocence. She says the killing in December 1996 was a “road rage” attack carried out by an unknown motorist.

But, the trial jury was told, the mother-of-one had invented that story after repeatedly knifing her lover in the neck and back with a Swiss Army knife.

The part-time barmaid then dumped the weapon in a toilet cubicle at a hospital where she was taken for treatment after the incident, the court was told.

The prosecution alleged that Andrews tucked the weapon inside one of her boots, leaving a bloodied imprint which matched the shape of the knife.

At a news conference following the killing Miss Andrews made an emotional appeal for the murderer to be caught.

She wept as she claimed that she and Mr Harvey had been chased for five miles by another car on the night of the killing, after the couple had visited a pub in Bromsgrove.

But, five days after that news conference Miss Andrews was arrested by police who later charged her with murder.

A spokesman for the Crown Prosecution Service said it had not yet been notified of the grounds for the appeal.
