Crooked solicitor jailed over £8m legal aid fraud

Tim Robinson with 'road rage' killer Tracie Andrews, who he represented in 1996

A flamboyant solicitor was jailed for masterminding a record £8million legal aid scam, it was revealed yesterday.

Tim Robinson's law firm was “riddled with corruption“ and made thousands of fraudelent claims for fictional cases.

The 60-year-old's team of solicitors and clerks milked the legal aid system over six years earning Ribinson a personal fortune of £3million.

But the scam came crashing down in 1997 when Robinson - best known for representing “road rage” killer Tracie Andrews - and 26 of his staff were charged with conspiracy to defraud the then Legal Aid Board.

Robinson was jailed in January 2001 but details emerged only yesterday after the lifting of a publicity blackout as the last of six trials - which led to 22 convictions - concluded at Bristol Crown Court.
