The origin of the name Cook

1. English: occupational name for a cook, a seller of cooked meats, or a keeper of an eating house, from Old English cōc (Latin coquus). There has been some confusion with Cock. 2. Jewish (Ashkenazic): in part an Anglicization of the Jewish surnames given below, in part an Anglicization of the Jewish surname Kuk, which is of unknown origin; it is sometimes Anglicized as Kook.
