State Papers, Domestic - Charles I, DVII

11 May 1645

Letter of advice to Anthony Browne, merchant at Exeter. I understand that Jean Franck is arrived at Ostend 14 days past. J Col[imore] is at Paris, and Capt Farand at Rotterdam, all from Dartmouth, but not one word from you, which much astonishes me. I have insured upon Franck 1,300 Flemish, upon your advice of a resolution to lade 1,000l worth of goods in him, but I doubt whether you have laden anything. All wonder here that you have not availed yourself of these conveyances to write one word. I have written you sundry letters by Haesdonck, who put to sea about 8 days past. I am so discouraged from the western trade that I cannot as yet resolve to have anything more to do with it. The "Hope" is yet at Calais, and no hopes of getting her free by the Queen's power.
