The following table shows people that are not listed above, as no census records for them have been found. But they were alive in the period 1801 to 1831, so it is possible that pre-1841 census listings for them still exist.

All currently-known pre-1841 National Census returns are listed in Wall, R., Woollard, M. and Moring, B, 'Census schedules and listings, 1801-1831: an introduction and guide', Research Tools, No 2 (Colchester, University of Essex, Department of History. 2nd edition published December 2012). None of those below are listed, but are perhaps still to be found.

United States

In the US, the Federal Census has been taken every 10 years since 1790, pursuant to Article 1, Section 2, Clause 3 of the Constitution:

Representatives and direct Taxes shall be apportioned among the several States which may be included within this Union, according to their respective Numbers, which shall be determined by adding to the whole Number of free Persons, including those bound to Service for a Term of Years, and excluding Indians not taxed, three fifths of all other Persons. The actual Enumeration shall be made within three Years after the first Meeting of the Congress of the United States, and within every subsequent Term of ten Years, in such Manner as they shall by Law direct.

Much of the 1790 Census was destroyed by the British during the War of 1812.

The enumeration took many weeks, the actual collection date being given on the return. Changes to the family situations between the census and actual collection dates may have influenced the returns.
