“The Wildrick Family”, written by H. G. Wildrick in 1949, contains the lines:-
163-4-2 Edward White Wildrick Jr. (6) married November 4, 1939, to Jean Ross Stanier, of Wilmington, Delaware. They have two children:
This page attempts to show how Jean Ross Stanier links to other Stanier families.
Jean Ross Stanier is presumably the Jean R Staniar listed in the 1920 census of 1019 Park Place, Wilmington DE (Roll T625_203, Page 8A)

Tracking back through census returns to find cousins named Ethel B Ball and Emma R Ball leads to this partial tree:-
¹ The household in the 1870 census included a Jane Ross, born 1817 PA. She appears to be a visitor rather than an employee, so perhaps she was Hannah's elder sister. This would explain Jean Ross Staniar's second name, as it would have been her grandmother's maiden name.
William Staniar is shown as living with his mother Florence in the 1910 census of West Street, Wilmington DE (Roll T624_147, Page 8B)

William Staniar's father is shown as Walter in the 1900 census of Belleville NJ, where the family was lodging in the household of Frederick J Wisschusen (Roll T623_969, Page 8B)

In 1880 Walter was living with his parents and siblings in William Street, Belleville (Roll 779, Page 323D). He was divorced, and must have married Florence soon after the census was taken.

In 1860 the family were living in Belleville, sharing a house with what appear to be Walter's grandmother and 2 uncles. (Roll M653_690, Page 306)
Name | Age | Occupation | Place of Birth |
---|---|---|---|
William STANIER | 35 | Wire Cloth Manufacturer | England |

William E STANIER | 1 | New Jersey | |
Hannah STANIER | 64 | England | |
Peter STANIER | 31 | Blacksmith | England |
James STANIER | 27 | Tinsmith | England |
In 1850 the family were living in Belleville, with no other relatives (Roll M432_449, Page 131A). This might mean that William and Elizabeth went to America first, and were later joined by his mother and brothers.
Name | Age | Occupation | Place of Birth |
---|---|---|---|
William STANIER | 26 | Wire Maker | England |
Elizabeth STANIER | 23 | England | |
Walter STANIER | 1 | New Jersey |
The names, dates of birth, and occupations of the Stanier family match very closely with one listed in the 1841 census of Pitt Street, Manchester (HO107/572/14 f27 p7).
Name | Age | Occupation | Place of Birth |
---|---|---|---|
William STANIER | 45 | Wire Worker | LAN |
Hannah STANIER | 44 | LAN | |
William STANIER | 16 | Wire Worker | LAN |
Richard STANIER | 14 | Plate Worker | LAN |
Peter STANIER | 12 | LAN | |
James STANIER | 8 | LAN | |
Hannah STANIER | 6 | LAN |
This may be the correct family, but the absence of William Sr, Richard, and Hannah Jr would need to be explained. None of the three appear in UK censuses after 1841.
² Familysearch lists only one marriage in England between a William Stanier and a Hannah between 1814 and 1824: William Stanier married Hannah Britain, 8 August 1820 Wolstanton LAN. But that family continued in Wolstanton past 1841.
