"Daily Life in Victorian England," Sally Mitchell, 1997 & 2002 - limited view - You may look only at the number of pages the author has allotted, as it's still in copyright, but the allotment is quite generous. Most chapters are available, which makes it very valuable.

PROJECT GUTENBERG also has many books on Cornwall, including "The Cornwall Coast" by Arthur L. Salmon, 1910.

The Old Cornwall Society , thanks to George Pritchard, has an online reference that links to over 400 books on Cornwall, including Thomas Pellew's book on his captivity by the Barbary corsairs; thought at the time of publication to be full of half-lies, etc. but modern research has proven it was all true! (Almost the entire population of Mousehole was kidnapped in the 1600s while they were at church - piracy and slavery happened quite often.) A wonderful source for Histories, smuggling details, and so on.

Cornwall Photos Online by Request -

Maintained by Steve Beazley. Has many photos of churches throughout Cornwall; also includes Holy Wells, Towns and Villages, and War Memorials. For instance, there are 47 photos of Treverbyn burial ground & churchyard, on 4 pages; each thumbnail has several photos 'behind' it, so be sure to check all of them. He has closeups of the gravestones, as well as more general shots. There are also several shots of the War Memorial at Treverbyn. Click on Photo Gallery, then on the Parish you're interested in and all the thumbnails will appear. (Treverbyn is on page 4 of 5, War Memorials)

FreeBMD (Birth, Marriage, Death)

The Civil Registration Index for the U.K., an index of CRO records since July, 1837. If you do not receive a positive result, try alternate spellings. The index will give you the page number, volume, and district of a record. The district is not the same as the parish. For instance, St. Austell registration district contains 23 separate, distinct parishes.

Geograph

An effort by geographers to amass photographs for every Ordnance Survey square for the map of Britain. SX0049 is Treverbyn to Par - click on the "directions" to move toward the area you wish. SX0350 shows Porthpean. Some of the photographs in our Photography section came from here - they allow "limited copyright" use.

Historical Directories Online.

Leicester University website, containing Historical Directories from all counties, including Cornwall (currently, 25 in all for Cornwall). Put the name of the parish in the search engine, then open one of the directories shown, then click on "HIT". This will open the first page where the parish is mentioned. Continue using "Hit" for each subsequent page.

St. Blazey Family History Project

A compilation of birth, marriage, and death records, approximately 1815-1837, created by Wesley Johnson. The data may be very valuable, as long as one remembers that Wesley has formed individuals into family groups using census data, etc. He does not guarantee the groupings are infallible, however.

Stone and Quarry Men of the West Country

Database of men who worked in Stone. They are also actively looking for additional information to add to this database.

 

Tregrehan House (Manor)

See our "Photo" section for some photographs of the grounds. Under the "Garden" section of their website, they have a lovely photo slideshow of the gardens. The gardens are open in Spring, and there is an associated nursery, with some rooms available to let. Some of the trees were planted in the 1600's, when the Carlyons first moved there.

A website that offers links to over 1,000 websites involved with U.K. genealogy - including the Cornwall OPC. However, the first mentioned websites are fee-based. Be sure to enter "Cornwall" under County, and the relevant websites will appear. Can be very helpful, displaying sites one might not have considered or discovered themselves.
