Thomas Lewis Edelen was the younger of James Edelen and Mary Lewis's two children.  He was born and reared at Lebanon, Kentucky, and attended private school there.  In 1873 he entered Centre College, graduating  in 1877, and then continuing on for a Master of Arts degree in 1880.  He was admitted to the bar in Jan 1879 and practiced law in Lebanon for the next 12 years.  Thomas removed from Lebanon to Frankfort in 1891, where he continued his law practice.  His elegant 1-1/2 acre home there was at 305 Ewing St.
 
Thomas Edelen and Eliza Bull were married at the St. Louis home of her father, John C. Bull, in November, 1884.

Thomas was a Republican, an elder in the First Presbyterian Church at Frankfort, and a member of the Board of Trustees of Kentucky State University at Lexington.  He became President of the Capital Trust Company, and later chairman of the Board of Directors and General Counsel for the company.  He died in Frankfort on 26 September 1926.  His widow, Eliza Bull Edelen, survived her husband for another 28 years.  She died in Frankfort, Kentucky, on 30 May 1954.
