ii.         Andrew Harriot, born Abt. 1732; married Mary ____ Bef. 1771.

Notes for Andrew Harriot:

Name of wife is derived from the Quit Claim in 1770 which is signed by Andrew Herriot and Mary Herryot.

There is a record that he contested the will of his father, Andrew, but on the 4th day of April 1770 did agree to share the estatewith his four sisters. (The will provided that it be shared equally).

April 4, 1770 Quit Claim Andrew Herriot of Woodbridge (Only son of Andrew Herriott of Woodbridge deceased) to Thomas Berry and wife Jane, Reuben Fitz Randolph and wife Mary, Thomas Carryl and wife Sarah, and Rachel Herriot.  Whereas Andrew Herriot late of Woodbridge, deceased, by will of July 26, 1734, devised the plantation on which he lived in Woodbridge, to his children, to be equally divided, but no division has yet been made, and it is suggested by Andrew's attorney, only son of said Andrew Herriot, deceased, that will may not be valid in which ____ he as heir at law to his father, would be entitled to all of latter's____ . Now to avoid any disputes, and in (consideration) of L65 (65 pounds) paid by above 4 co-heirs. Quit claim 4/5 of all of my father, i.e. 1/5 to each of the four so listed above.

A newspaper extract (The Pennsylvania Journal No. 1413 dated January 4, 1770) indicates that an Andrew Herriot had "fallen on hard times," and was in jail for his debts and was asking for his estate (probably referring to his assets) to be distributed to his creditors so he could get out of jail. The judge mentioned in the article is the same judge who presided over the property sales.

In 1794, estate of father Andrew Harriot  partitioned to Andrew Harriot (son), Jane (Harriot) Berry, Rachel Harriot, Reuben Fitz Randolph, Mary (Harriot) Fitz Randolph, and Sarah (Harriot) Carryl (Vol 1, Page 725).

Andrew Herriot to Thomas Carryl, July 21, 1771: To all persons to whom these presents shall come, I Andrew Herriot of the Township of Woodbridge in the Province of New Jersey, son of Andrew Herriot late of the same place deceased Sendeth Greeting. Whereas the said Andrew Herriot deceased by his last will and testament bearing date the twenty sixth day of july in the year of our Lord One thousand seven hundred and thirty four and recorded in the ____ Office at Perth Amboy in book 11 of wills, page 468 did order and appoint that the plantation whereon he then lived in Woodbridge aforesaid should be equally divided among his children when they should come of age share and share alike. And whereas the said plantation as yet remains undivided, and I the said Andrew Herriot claim one fifth of the same plantation as my share and proportion thereof by virtue of the will of my father, and also one fifth of all the other real estate which the said Andrew Herriot died seized of. Now know ye that I the said Andrew Herriot for and in consideration of the sum of one hundred pounds Jersey money at eight shillings the ounze to me paid or secured to be paid by the said Thomas Carryl Have granted, bargained, sold, remised, released, and forever quit claimed. And by these presents do for myself, my heirs and assigns fully clearly and absolutely grant bargain sell remise release and forever quit claim unto the said Thomas Carryl and to his heirs and assigns forever. All the estate ___ title property and interest claim and demand which I the said Andrew Herriot now have, or which, I or my heirs at anytime hereafter may or ought to have of in or to the said plantation with the ____ and of in and to all other the Real Estate which the said Andrew Herriot died seized of at the time of his death, and which I claim by virtue of the said will, or as heir at law to my said father or any otherwise heresoever. To have and to hold all singular the said and bargained premises and every pact and parcel thereofwhich their and every of their ____ to the said Thomas Carryl, his heirs and assigns forever......

iii.        Sarah Harriot, born 1736; died 1820 in New York; married Thomas Carryl Bef. 1771.

Notes for Sarah Harriot:

Sarah Caryl was found buried in the Gilboa (Old Cemetery) with dates 1736-1820. She was located in lot 303, immediately next to her sister, Rachel Harriot, lot 302. In addition, the following was learned: Lot 300 is Rachel H. Carryl Street (apparently the daughter or granddaughter of Sarah) 1795-1887  and lot 301 is John Street, apparently Rachel's husband, 1789-1854. For now, assuming Rachel H. Carryl is Sarah's granddaughter, otherwise Sarah would have been 59 years old at her birth.
