The following abstract, prepared by Catherine R. (Home) STEPHENS, is from a deed
recorded in Book W, page 547, Monmouth Co., NJ, in which Samuel Stevens & Fanny Stevens
sell to Gabriel Allen:

 

"This indenture was made in the year 1787, between Samuel Stevens, Exec. and Fanny Stevens, exec. of the last will and testament of John Stevens, dec'd. of the township of Upper Freehold, County of Monmouth, of the one part and Gabriel Allen of the township of Chesterfield, Burlington County, New Jersey of the other part.  Witness that the said Samuel and Fanny Stevens, for and in consideration of the sum of 200 pounds and 1 penney of current New Jersey money to them in hand paid by the said Gabriel Allen for the ensealing and delivering of the pre___ts.  Whereof they do ---- the said Gabriel Allen, his heirs, etc. as conveyed, etc., unto the said Gabriel Allen forever.  One certain lot or piece of upland with a sawmill lying and being in Upper Freehold Township on Main Branch of Crosswick Creek, County and State, which he, John STEPHENS purchased of Gilbert Longstreet, it being part of plantation belonging formerly to Gilbert Plumstead (or Pumstead) which  part bearing date January 1787.  John STEPHENS left to be sold, lower part of sawmill on east side running east one chain and 85 links running to the Great Road, along Great Road south 2 chains, and 20 links, 2 chains 20 links down creek channel to sawmill."   

 

     The following is an abstract prepared by Catherine (Home) R. STEPHENS,
     of a deed for a sale of land by Stacy Stevens to James Shinn
     on 25 October 1800, found in Deed Book M, page 657, Surrogate's Office,
     Monmouth County, New Jersey:

"Stacey Stevens, County of Greene and State of Pennsylvania, on the one part to James Shinn of Upper Freehold of the other part, 25 October 1800. Shinn paid Stacey STEPHENS and Elizabeth his wife, 646 pounds 18 shillings in gold or silver money. Elizabeth gave up her dower right to the property.  Land given Stacey Stevens by will by father John STEPHENS, dec'd.  Land had been purchased from Gisbert (or Gilbert) Langstreet who had purchased it from his father, Stophel Langstreet (or Longstreet).  The name occurs in the index as Stophel, Staufel."
