TRAFALGAR SQUARE in the centre of the village with Alma House, a grocers shop on the right and a cobblers shop on the side. Mr J H Williams ran the shop and Mr Billy Dustan repaired the boots and shoes.
This is Gribbas Corner, where New Road meets South road and East road. The pump is on the right hand side with a lady standing by it. On the left is Peters grocery shop and the two girls in front are Mrs Louie Ford and her elder sister with eggs in her basket. The house behind the shop was on the other side of the road leading to the Mill. It was demolished years ago and is now a garden.
This is Foundry. There was a pub on the left, and a butchers shop beyond it and also a hammer mill run by a water wheel where they made shovels. On the right is the back of the Peters’ home and they also had a shop.
This is Goonglaze or Shop Pool, the home of the Williams family, builders on the right and the Sarah’s in the distance. This road leads to Penhalvean and Redruth.
This is New Road with the end of the shop on the left and Martins Terrace on the right with J. A. Richards and Sons’ showrooms and granite cutting yard in one of the gardens. Martins Terrace was demolished to widen the road into Crellow Lane.
This is still farther along New road with a farmyard on the left and two blocks of houses that are still in existence
Hendra Terrrace built by the Martin Family and home of the Post Office at that time.
At the end of New Road is Mr Tozer’s house and shop for groceries and a cobblers shop on the end. On the right of the picture are two more blocks of houses that still exist and a boy is resting in the hedge, while carrying two pitchers of water from the well.
