1) Edmund Bathe 1633 - Extracted from the Bodmin District Registry of Her Majesty’s Court of Probate, in the Archdeaconry Court of Cornwall. In the Name
of God Amen, the 30th . day of September in the year of our Lord God one
thousand, six hundred and thirty-three: I Edmund Bathe of the parish of
Stethians in the County of Cornwall Gent: being sick in body (but God be
thanked) of good and perfect memory do ordain and make this my last Will
and Testament, hereby revoking all former wills and testaments by me
heretofore made. First I bequeath my soul to the Almighty God my Maker and
Redeemer by whose bitter death and Passion I have a confident assurance (by
my faith in Him) to inherit the Kingdom of Heaven; my body I command and
desire to have an orderly and Christian burial.
Then I give and devise unto the Poor of the Parish of
Stithians the sum of thirteen shillings and four pence to be disposed well
by my Executor. Then I give and bequeath to each of my brethren a pair of
white leather gloves and to my sister Grace Wollocombe the like pair of
gloves. Then I give and bequeath to my daughter Ann Bathe the sum of fifty
pounds to be paid unto her in the term of three years next after my decease
if she not be assured thereof upon her marriage, in the meantime the said
fifty pounds to be so paid after my decease to be paid yearly in three years
after my decease in equal portions at the end of every year. Then I give and
bequeath unto my sonne James Bathe a pair of Mollie clothes about four
yards; then I give unto Temperance the daughter of the said James Bathe a
ewe, and unto William the sonne of my sonne Henry Bathe the colt of my red
mare. Then
I give and bequeath unto Walter James my son-in-law twelve pence. Then I
give and bequeath unto Mr. Orchard Vicar of the said parish of Stethians for
tithes forgotten the sum of six shillings and eight pence. All the rest of
my goods and chattels not given and bequeathed, I give and bequeath unto my
said sonne Henry whom I make and ordain to be my full and whole Executor and
I appoint and desire my good friends John Joselyn and William Carnan to be
Overseers of this my last Will and Testament, whom I desire to do the best
they may to see and keep good concord and love between my children and to
see this my Will well performed and for their pains and care therin I give
each of them a pair of gauntlet gloves usually made at St. Columb. In
witness of the Truth hereof I, the said Edmund Bathe have hereunto put my
hand the day and year first above said.
