1. SABRINA² STORMS (ISAAC¹)^1,2,3 was born May 09, 1811 in New York, and died January 11, 1887 in Bridgeton township, Newaygo county, Michigan. She married JAMES SMITH^4,5,6 Abt. 1837. He was born Abt. 1817 in New York, and died Bef. 1870 in Bridgeton township, Newaygo county, Michigan.

Sabrina's death certificate, in Newaygo County, recorded her as being born 9 May, 1811 and died 11 July, 1887. However deaths were only filed once a year, so the clerk's office may not be accurate. By the same token her gravestone may not be accurate either, the inscription on her stone is November 22, 1811.. In this case I am using the information obtained from the death record as her date birth.

Notes for JAMES SMITH:

James Smith met and married Sabrina Storms in New York about 1836. It was there that their first daughter Martha Ann was born. Shortly after they moved to Madison township, Sandusky County, Ohio. There they had three more daughter's, Ellen Jane, Eliza and Adelia M. In 1854 they moved to Bridgeton township, Newaygo County, Michigan where they made their home.

In 1860 the value of their real estate was $700 and their personal property was $300. Furthermore, they had their nephew, Hannible Storms living with them, along with 10 year old Napoleon Jennings, who was born in Ohio. Napoleon was the son of Noah Jennings Jr. & wife Rachel (nee Inman), they were married in 1833, Sandusky, Ohio. It is not clear why Napoleon was with the Smith family, perhaps orphaned? Napoleon's sister Anna Jennings was the 2nd wife of William L. Wolcott, his first wife being Sarah Storms, sister of Sabrina.

Sabrina lived with her daughter, Eliza and son-in-law Edgar Whitman for a time between 1870 & 1884. In 1884 she lived with her nephew Hannible. after the death of her husband. James died sometime before 1870, while only in his early fifties. She lived with her nephew Hannible Storms in 1884

There is an old Indian cemetery on the Storms homestead (Hamilton Storms s/o Richard, section 21, on the north side of the river.) Stories were told by Charles and Sabrina, along with other relatives who lived along the river at the time, of Indian burial ceremonies. They could remember the Indian's howling cries along with the Indians bringing their dead down river to the burial grounds by canoe.

The Smith and Storms families lived on opposite sides of the river they would walk along the banks and yell or whistle until someone from the opposite side of the river heard them and brought the boats over to get them.
