General Notes:
Jeremiah studied medicine under the direction of Dr. Vincent King of Little Britain, Lancaster County PA; attended two courses of lectures at the Jefferson Medical College, Philadelphia, and graduated on the eigth day of March, 1827, at the age of twenty-three. He commenced the practice of his profession at Rising Sun, Cecil County MD, and remained there a period of nine years. While practicing in that State he was elected a member of the Medico-Chirurgical Society of Maryland, under date September 11, 1827. Soon after his marriage, in 1836, he returned to Little Britain -- having previously purchased the farm of John K Sappington, M.D. Here he continued the practice of his profession until his decease. On the 14th of February, 1844, he was elected a member of the Lancaster City and County Medical Society; was afterward chosen president of the society. Taking an active part in the advancement of his profession, he was elected a member of the American Medical Association, and attended its sessions as a delegate, in 1849 at Boston; Richmond, 1851, and New York, 1856. In 1848-49 he was elected to in part represent his county in the State Legislature, as a member of the "lower house". While a member of that body he was appointed on two if its most important committees -- "On Banks" and "Education".
