REED Nathan-3 (Thomas-2, John-1); Norwalk, CT; 1700s Hannah-4 REED (Nathan-3, Thomas-2, John-1) Stephen-4 REED (Elias-3, Thomas-2, John-1) Q. Does anyone have will of Nathan-3 REED? Q. Is Hannah-4 REED identical with Hannah (REED) MARINER? Capt. Ephraim-3 MARINER (William-2, Josue-1), son of William-2 and Abigail (WELLS) MARINER, b. Colchester, New London, CT 1735; d. Sharon, Litchfield Co., CT 1810; m. Hannah REED (Mariner family Bible records). Hannah (REED) MARINER's dowry right in Ephraim's estate was distributed by Alpheus JEWETT, Stephen REED, and Elihu COLEMAN. It seems probable that Stephen REED was kinsman of Hannah (REED) MARINER. From "REED-NILES-CAPIN Family Histories" (Newell A. Williams, [November 1980]), we learn that Elias-3 REED (Thomas-2, John-1) went from Norwalk, Fairfield Co., CT to Salisbury, Litchfield Co., CT in 1738 as a Proprietor; his brother John soon followed. "John (3) and Elias (3) of Salisbury were the ancestors of that numerous portion of the family who made their homes in that town and in Canaan, Cornwall and Sharon." From "REED-READ Lineage: Capt. John REED of Providence, RI & Norwalk, Conn. and His Descendants Through His Sons John and Thomas 1660-1909" (Ella Reed-Wright, [Waterbury CT: The Mattatuck Press; 1909]), we learn of Stephen-4 REED (Elias-3, Thomas-2, John-1), b. 1761; m. Abigail KILBOURN. Elias-3 and Mary (TODD) READ had 11 children b. between 1740-1764 but no daughter named Hannah. Without the benefit of reviewing primary sources it appears that Stephen REED and Hannah (REED) MARINER were not siblings. However, Stephen had a first cousin, Hannah-4 REED (Nathan-3, Thomas-2, John-1), b. 16 July 1745, dau. of Nathan-3 and Mary (JONES) REED. Regrettably, no further information is provided on Hannah in "REED-READ Lineage." I am seeking all genealogical and biographical details for the family documented above including their ancestors, children, and grandchildren and the spouses thereof, including the full names of those spouses' parents. All additions and corrections within this scope, however speculative, will be greatly appreciated. Please send a copy of any response directly to me.
