In 1898 Charles Booth surveyed the area which included Prebend Place. Here are his findings...
"Prebend Place. running out of Prebend St (S) contains 10 or 12 two storey houses, said to be occupied by a "peer working class", but really a mixture, and should be purple, rather than pink, as on map."

ALFRED GEORGE3 CLEMENTS (THOMAS J.2, GEORGE1) was born
Alfred served in the Royal Navy as a stoker, No K29995. He was based at Chatham between 11th Dec 1915 and 24th Oct 1919 serving in WW1 on the following ships.
11th Dec 1 915 - 10th March 1916 on the Pembroke 2 as a stoker grade 2
11th Mar 1916 - 22 Aug - 28 1917 on the Cadmus as a stoker grade 2 promoted to a stoker grade 1 on 20th July 1916
23rd Aug 1917 - 30th June 1918 on the Tamar as stoker grade 1
1 Jul 1918 - 28 May 1919 on the Tamar (Whiting) as a stoker grade 1
29 May 1919 - 24th Oct 1919 on the Pembroke 2 as a stoker grade 1
He was de mobbed on the 24th Oct 1919 and paid a war gratuity.
Back at home Alfred was a Railway Carman. Probably dealing with maybe the loading and unloading of the horse drawn carts that brought goods to and from the railway wagons and/or looking after the horses. A picture shows him next to a horse draw cart with "Midland Railway St Pancras" written on the side.Notes for ALFRED
