Catherine Deason MASON, daughter of Marion Causey MASON and Hazel Laura DEASON, was born on 20 Nov 1935 in Bethune, SC,1 died on 4 Feb 2006 in North Charleston, South Carolina2 at age 70, and was buried on 6 Feb 2006 in Lebanon Church Cemetary, Hampton, South Carolina. The cause of her death was Ovarian Cancer.
General Notes: Catherine was a wonderful seamstress, quilter, cake decorator, and baker. She was very talented and crafty. Her cinnamon rolls were legend in the eyes of many!
Medical Notes: In August of 2002, Catherine was diagnosed with Infiltrating Lobular Carcinoma, a type of breast cancer. She started radiation treatments on September 23, 2002 and had great success in having the cancer under control however , she was diagnosed with Adenocarcinoma , a glandular cancer in June of 2005. The cancer was believed to have started in her ovaries where it quickly overtook her abdoman, fatty tissues, and caused a tumor on her colon. Catherine passed away during the early morning hours of Febuary 4, 2006 in Trident Regional Medical Center surrounded by her family.

Hazel Deason did not recieve her name until she turned one year old. Until that time she was refered to as "Baby" and only recieved her name after it was seen that her eyes were Hazel in color. Several of the farm hands and women whom helped in her childhood home refered to her as " Miss Baby" even after she was married and had children of her own.
