bullet  General Notes:

War of 1812 : Captain E. L. Gingle's Company of Infantry in a Regiment
of Detached Malitia from North Carolina during the Creek Indian War in Alabama.
The War of 1812 was a military conflict that lasted from June 18, 1812, to February 18, 1815, fought between the United States of America and the United Kingdom, its North American colonies, and its North American Indian allies.
Although its events inspired one of the nation's most famous patriotic songs, the War of 1812 is a relatively little-known war in American history. Despite its complicated causes and inconclusive outcome, the conflict helped establish the credibility of the young United States among other nations. It fostered a strong sense of national pride among the American people, and those patriotic feelings are reflected and preserved in the song we know today as the U.S. national anthem.(The Star-Spangled Banner)

bullet  Noted events in his life were:

  • Family history: 1777-1828. 4 "From 1799 through the year 1805, there are two David Clines of nearly the same age in Cabarrus county. It is presumed that John Cline's son David is the younger of these two Davids. This younger David is born in 1777 which is consistent with the David cited in 1792 as a minor son of the deceased John Cline. This David's birth year is from his listing in the 1850 Murray county, GA census. This David Cline leaves Cabarrus county after 1805 for other parts of North Carolina.

(The other older David Cline (1.3.7) is born 1770-1775 per the Cabarrus county 1810-1840 census and lives his whole life in Cabarrus county. This older David is presumed to be a son of Jacob Cline (1713-1795), since no other parent for him is evident at that time in Cabarrus county.
David Cline (1.3.7) is distinguished from the other, younger, David (1.3.1.2), son of John Cline (1.3.1), by the location of his property within Cabarrus county and his continuing occupancy there. The younger David Cline has property on Coldwater Creek, near his brother Henry, which he acquires in 1799 and 1803. He then sells his property about 1805 and moves to Lincoln
    county.
There are no more records for David Cline in the Coldwater Creek area after 1805.)

Joh. Klein, confirmed at Dutch Buffalo Creek Church in 1796, might be David, as he is the only Cline of near confirmation age in the area in 1796. Joh. Klein might be David if the Joh simply the often -used name Johan, and the omitted middle name is David.

David is a juror from Paul Barring's company in 1802 and 1803. Paul Barringer is noted as living one mile from Jacob Cline in 1766. After David's deed to Daniel Boger is recorded in January 1805, no more records for David are found in this northern area of Cabarrus county. There are only records for a David Cline on Rocky River in southeast Cabarrus county. These records start in 1801 and the David of these records is presumed to be the other, older David(1.3.7). This older David stays in the southeast part of Cabarrus county until he dies in 1845.

The younger David (1.3.1.2) moves to Lincoln county where he marries Mary A. Conrad on March 9, 1806. David is in the Lincoln county 1810 census with his wife and first-born child, a son in his household. David serves in the 7th company of the Lincoln county militia in 1814 in the War of 1812. also in that unit is his 2nd cousin, Solomon Cline from Cabarrus county. In January and July 1812 in Lincoln county, David litigates and loses an "assault and battery" case against William (probably Devil Bill) Cline, his second cousin.

David leaves Lincoln county soon after this and is in adjacent Burke county in the 1820 census and has four sons and one daughter. David's stay of more than ten years in Lincoln county apparently left the mistaken impression among Lincoln county Cline descendants that David was born in Lincoln county and was a son of Christopher Cline. This misinformation found its way into the family history (FH2) of the Lincoln county Sebastian (Boston) Cline family. The FH2 information is clearly incorrect, as is discussed in the Lincoln county Cline chapter of "The Cline Families Of North Carolina 1750-1860", by George B. Cline, Jr. This younger David is 13 years old at the time of the 1790 census, but no such child is present in any of the Lincoln county Cline households in the 1790 census.

There is an older David Cline, who is born in 1766 in Lincoln county and is the grandson of Sebastian (Boston) Cline. This older David moves to Rutherford county. F2 thinks this older David is the same as this younger David, (son of John Cline) from Cabarrus county. FH2 discusses the David of Rutherford county and then mistakenly attributes the life of Cabarrus county David as a continuation of the life of the Rutherford county David. Rutherford county David actually stays in Rutherford county and dies there in 1828.

FH2 then recounts the history of David as he migrates to western North Carolina and Georgia, thinking that he is the older David of the Lincoln county Sebastian (Boston) Cline family. However, FH2 has information learned from descendants of David (son of John Cline) which identifies this David's children and some of his grandchildren."
