Click on any photo to see a larger image.  See also links below. The Burkards lived in Featherstone and Hay Creek, Goodhue County, Minnesota from about 1860-1902 and have roots in Achren, Baden, Germany and in Bas-Rhin, Alsace, then Germany.

It is not known whether Odilia Holzman (AKA Odile Holtzmann) and Albert A. Burkard emmigrated alone or with family members, but Odilia had an aunt and uncle (Therese and Clement Periolat family) in the Chicago Area and she may have gone to them initially. They were married in 1860 in Chicago and were living in Featherstone, Goodhue County, MN by the end of that year.  Odilia was from Minversheim, Bas-Rhin, Alsace, then Germany, and Albert was from Achren, Baden, Germany. Two of Albert's nephews (parents unknown) also immigrated to the US: Karl (a baker) and Oskar (an army medic)

Some of these photos are from a handwritten family record book started by Emma Burkard Durig and continued by her niece, Odila Hawkins Warren. I have used the information in the book as a guide for researching this side of the family. Most facts were very accurate when checked against the record.  Some facts were close, but not quite accurate.
