side of the family. James and Bridgit Phelan came to New York City with
their sons John and James in the early 1800's, presumably from Grantstown,
Queens County, Ireland. Photo below is of John's son, Dr. Gregory John
Phelan, and his wife Cecile Blanchet, daughter of Hyacinthe
Nicolas DuReste Blanchet of Guadaloupe and and Henriette Delphine Raux
of the Reunion Islands. Cecile and her siblings were born in Madison, New
Jersey, but she and Gregory traveled around Cape Horn in 1849 to Sacramento,
CA while many of her siblings moved west to Kentucky. The links below are
to distant cousins on the Blanchet side.
