Mary Horne Bridgers never married. For most of her adult life, she was the Principal at the Bridgers School in Tarboro, a school that once stood at the east end of the Tarboro Town Commons. Her older sister, Loulie Bridgers, was the Libraian of The Bridgers School. The school was constructed in 1910 and demolished in the 1970s. Both sisters lived together until Loulie died at age 78. Mary passed in 1964 at age 82. Their home still stands today (2007) in Tarboro and is registered with the National Historic District.

Mary Horne Bridgers was born in Tarboro, Edgecombe Co, NC, the youngest of 4 known children (2 boys / 2 girls) born to lawyer and CSA Col. John L. Bridgers and his (2nd) wife, Mary Elizabeth Battle.

She is the paternal grandchild of John Bridgers & Elizabeth Kettewells Rouse of Edgecombe, and the paternal grandchild of Joseph Sumner Battle & Mary Anne Horne of Edgecombe.

Mary was just 2 years old when her father died, and she lived with her widowed mother and siblings until her mother died in 1918.

Mary Horne Bridgers never married. She became an educator, and later Principal of the Bridgers School in Tarboro, a school that once stood at the east end of the Tarboro Town Commons. Her older sister, Loulie Bridgers, was Librarian at the same school. The school was constructed in 1910 and demolished in the 1970s.

Both sisters lived together in the now historic "Bridgers House", at 1201 St. Andrew Street, the Victorian Cottage and family home their father built after they left "The Grove". Their home still stands today (2007) in Tarboro and is registered with the National Historic District.
