Charles Vincent McAdams, Sr., known to all as Chuck, was born on June 6, 1916 at 4118 Milgate Street, Pittsburgh, the fifth of six children of Thomas Joseph and Louise Wertz McAdams.
Chuck graduated from Peabody High School Class in 1936. Year Book lists his ambition as "to find a job," and his favorite remark as "So what?"
Chuck married Mae Kelly, the daughter of Marie Dickert and John J. Kelly who was born on June 11, 1918.
Chuck and Mae had three sons,
Chuck was a World War II veteran. In civilian life, has a meat cutter at Star Market and Giant Eagle. He also worked at Wilson Packing Plant with John Woolslayer, his mother-in law's third husband.
His son, Tom, describes his cooking style of filling a pot with pork and hot dogs and covering everything with a layer of sauerkraut.
Mae died on December 5, 1966 and was buried in Section 61 of Allegheny Cemetery with her second husband, Jack Wiser.
This photograph of Chuck in 1979 was sent to his son, Tom, from Ivy Nursing Home. The photograph was accompanied by this letter dated August 13, 1979:
Dear Mr. McAdams,Chuck died on February 26, 1983 and was buried in Section H, St. Mary's Cemetery, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania with his father, Thomas Joseph McAdams, his grandfather, James McAdams and his son, Charles Vincent McAdams, Jr.
Recently a student photographer from Chatham College came to the nursing home to practice her photographic techniques. Enclosed is a photograph of your father which I thought you would like to have.
