McAdams Virtual Family Reunion

Robert McAdams, Co. D, 63rd Pennsylvania Volunteers

I have no proof that Tom is related to this branch of the McAdams family. However, as Joe McAdams of the McAdams Historical Society points out, all McAdams are related if you trace them back far enough. Joe also points out that frequently two McAdams families in the same vicinity were related. Robert McAdams and our James McAdams were both in Pittsburgh in the 1860. The first names in the first generation - Robert, William, and James are also similar, suggesting a similar area of origin in Ireland. I like to think that we are related to this branch of the McAdams family and that someday we will learn exactly how our two branches are related.

This particular Robert McAdams1 was born on June 19, 1819 in Ireland.

In 1860 Robert was a Shoemaker living at 50 Prospect in the 6th Ward of Pittsburgh with his wife, Mary Ann McCall McAdams.

In the 1864 City Directory, Robert McAdams Sr. was listed as "soldier, 19 Shingiss"

The History of Pennsylvania Volunteers, 1861-5 has the following entry for Robert:
