In 1885, Allegheny County legislation standardized the marriage license process. Prior to 1885, each city had its own requirements. churches kept their own records. George and Maggie's Marriage License is recorded in the City of Pittsburgh Marriage License Docket. It reads:
George Clark Age 27 years, occupation boatman
Maggie McAdams Age 22 years residence 16 Gibbon St. 6 Ward
Married at St. Paul's Cathedral Grant St. on
March 6, 1873
