Taskers in Canada
William Tasker, who was born on 14 April 1820 in Yorkshire, emigrated to Kent County, Ontario in 1843 and settled on a farm in East Tilbury Township, near the village of Merlin and the now extinct village of Baddertown. Today there is a road just west of Merlin named Tasker Road, presumably named after this family. Like his brother, Thomas, William was married multiple times. He married firstly probably in Tilbury, Kent County, Ontario to Margaret Webster. She was born in 1826 probably in England and died in 1871 in Ontario. William married very soon afterwards to a woman named Isobel, of whom nothing more is known. Their marriage ended by 1874, but it is not known if Isobel died, or if they were divorced as there is no known written record of her existence. Evidence of her existence comes only from family tradition. About 1875, William married a third time to a woman named Philadelphia who was born on 30 September 1842 in England. William and Philadelphia are said to have met on a ship crossing from England to Canada, while William was back visiting. They married three weeks after meeting.
