Tasker Family History - Cheshire

Taskers in Cheshire

Before 1600 there seem to be at least three different Tasker families in Cheshire: at Mottram in Longendale (now part of Greater Manchester, between Stalybridge and Glossop in Derbyshire); at Prestbury; and at Goostrey, a village near Holmes Chapel.

Mottram in Longendale provides the first IGI record, with Richard Tasker (born about 1550) marrying Joane Hutchenson on 7 February 1574. The Roger Tasker christened on 8 Oct 1592 is presumably their son, as may be Robert Tasker (or Handforth) christened on 6 May 1599.

At Prestbury, Margaret Tasker (born about 1560?) married Richard Baylie on 28 July 1583, and then married Ralph Burges on 23 or 28 May 1592.

John Tasker (born about 1575?) married Anne King on 21 Dec 1600 at St John the Baptist, Chester, and may be the same John whose son William was christened in Goostrey on 26 December 1620, with son Henry christened on 26 January 1622. George Tasker was born in Goosetry about 1589 and married Margaret Tomkinson on 28 Dec 1614, with their daughter Margaret christened on 30 July 1620. A few years later, William Tasker had daughter Mary christened on 3 Sep 1637, then Marjorie Tasker, born about 1650, married Hugh Brandreth there on 30 Sep 1667. Finally, Goostrey was home of Thomas Tasker, whose daughter Joan was christened on 27 May 1680, and Martha on 4 Aug 1703.

Other old Cheshire Taskers include:
Richard Tasker (born about 1600?) who married Ellen Cliffe on 21 July 1627 at St Oswalds, Chester,
Ann Tasker, born about 1650, who married John Johnson at Tarporley on 30 July 1675,
William Tasker, born about 1682 at Alderley, who married Martha Brown on 10 August 1707,
Thomas, born to Thomas Tasker in 1677 at Rowton near Chester who married Mary Rocke on 29 September 1701.

How the 243 Cheshire Taskers listed on the IGI are related remains to be seen.
