Tasker Family History - Leicestershire

Taskers in Leicestershire & Rutland

The marriage of William Tasker to Sarah Goodland on 19 May 1831, and the christening of their son William Edward on 31 October the same year, are surprisingly the only 2 Tasker records for Leicestershire in the entire IGI.

Both the wedding and christening took place at Higham on the Hill, a village only a mile over the Leicestershire border from Warwickshire, making this county the likely ancestral home of William – and so Leicestershire nearly a Tasker-free zone!

The old county of Rutland - midway between Leicester and Peterborough - was once England's smallest county. Nevertheless it managed to produce four Taskers, starting with Richard Tasker, marrying Joan Francis on 3 November 1618 at Ketton cum Tixover, near Stamford (over the border in Lincolnshire). Another Richard - or the same one – then married Elizabeth Macrith on 25 January 1620 at Uppingham.

Forty years later, Henry Tasker married Dorothy Dodgson on 20 February 1663 at Oakham, then over 120 years later William Tasker married Mary Sisson (or Tisson, or Tilson!) on 12 February 1787. And those four records are all that are there...
