The amazing total of 962 Taskers recorded on the IGI for Shropshire is mainly due to the Tasker clan centred on Abdon, where no less than 440 Tasker records are located.

Abdon is a small village beneath Brown Clee Hill, midway between Bridgnorth, Church Stretton and Ludlow. The oldest recorded Tasker there is John Tasker, born about 1589, who married Joane Millichopp on 19 September 1614.
