Taskers in Sussex

Of the 726 IGI records of Taskers in Sussex, the majority come from three main centres: the Lewes area, around Tunbridge Wells, and near Haywards Heath. Stangely, there are no records before 1600.

One of the founding fathers was Thomas Tasker, born about 1600 in Barcombe, who married 3 times (to Elizabeth Huggett, Frances Miller and then Anne Moore) giving rise to later generations in Barcombe, Ringmer and Lewes, where a total of over 200 Taskers are recorded. Many are linked on the Pedigree Resource File of the IGI.

There are also over 100 Tasker records at Withyham and Rotherfield, two villages to the west and south of Tunbridge Wells, and a further 100 at Balcombe and Cuckfield, villages just outside Haywards Heath.
