8. Solomon Mason was born 22 Jan 1823 in Kent Co., DE. He died 30 Sep 1892 in Farmland, Randolph Co., IN and was buried 30 Sep 1892 in Maxville/Woodlawn Cemetery, Randolph Co., IN. Solomon married (1) Christina Ferrill about 1848 in Ohio. He married (2) Mary Hiatt. Mary was born in 1807, died 24 Jan 1878 in Farmland, Randolph Co., IN, and is buried Maxville/Woodlawn Cemetery, Randolph Co., IN. [Parents]

Note regarding Mary Hiatt: Mary was the widow of David Murphy (d. bef 1853). David and Mary had a son, Francis Marion Murphy, b. abt 1841, d. bef 19 Dec 1874. Francis married Eunice Morris.

9. Christina Ferrill (or Farrow) was born about 1818 in Ohio. She died Feb 1850 in Black Lick, Franklin Co., OH. She married (1) William Mason (no relation to Solomon) who died before 1848. She married (2) Solomon Mason about 1848 in Ohio.

BIOGRAPHY

Portrait & Biographical Record, Randolph County, Indiana, by A. W. Bowne & Co. (1894) contains an entry for Felix Washington Mason. That entry indicates that Felix's mother was Christina Ferrill.

SOLOMON MASON

born Jan 22, 1823 in Kent County, Delaware

parents were Isaac and Sarah Mason

they died when Solomon was quite young

Solomon came to Black Lick, Ohio in 1848

At age 25, he met and married Christina Farrow Mason

(She was the widow of William Mason - no relation to Solomon - and she had four children)

  3. Catherine Mason (Shock)

  4. Henry Mason

On March 22, 1849, Solomon and Christina had a sone, Felix Washington Mason, born in Franklin County, Ohio

In 1850, Christina died at age 32 leaving Solomon with a new bay and four step-children

Solomon re-married in 1853 when he was 30 years old. His second wife was Mary Hiatt Murphy, widow of David Murphy. She was 16 years older than Solomon and the mother of Francis Marion Murphy, age 12.

On may 8, 1864, Solomon, age 41, enlisted in Company K, 133 regiment, Ohio Volunteers at Leesburg, Ohio

At the close of the war, Solomon came to Indiana with 15 year old Felix, and settled near Farmland where he lived the rest of his life.

Mary Hiatt Murphy Mason died at age 71 in 1878 leaving Solomon a widower again at age 55.

Solomon lived with Felix and Eunice (Murphy) widow of Faracis Marion Murphy ) Mason unitil his death Sept. 30, 1892, age 69.

Solomon and Mary Hiatt Murphy Mason are both buried in the Maxville Cemetery - on the north side and western part.
