Attended Midfield and Gardendale Elementary Schools, Jones Valley Junior High, and Jones Valley High School, from whence he graduated in May, 1972. He spent the 1972-73 school year at the University of Montevallo, and the 1974-75 school year at Jefferson State Junior College, majoring in music at both locations.
He played guitar and his brother played dobro (country music), being on the Country Boy Eddie TV show for 26 weeks in 1971-1972. Later Terry began playing bass guitar and Gary played steel guitar with such groups as the Maharrey Trio, and the Songsters of Gallant, AL. After Gary moved to NC to play professionally with the Kingsmen Quartet, Terry played with the Revelaires of Midfield, AL until approximately 1 year after his marriage, ending about 1976.
He and Fredia at various times did wedding photography, performed as clowns, and owned a Personal Computer (PC) consulting company, PCVisions. Terry worked for BellSouth for 17ư years, leaving BellSouth on Dec 31, 1995 to complete his Bachelor's degree at Samford University, Birmingham, AL, age 39. He graduated from Samford in 1996. He went on to earn his Master's degree in Education (Counseling, Leadership, and Guidance) at the University of Montevallo, Montevallo, Alabama in 1998. Scored in the 98th Percentile on the Miller Analogies Test (MAT) on admission to the UofM, allowing him to join Mensa, whose only requirement for membership is a Genius level IQ.
Worked for 2 years at the International Pelvic Pain Society, where he had the opportunity to counsel women suffering from Chronic Pelvic Pain on how to cope with their conditions. A job he truly loved, he was forced to leave after only 2 years when the non-profit organization couldn't raise enough money to keep him on the payroll.
He began work at the University of Alabama at Birmingham as a Temporary employee in the fall of 1999, earning a permanent position in the Department of Design Build Services as Assistant to the Director in July, 2000.

Marie died of congestive heart failure. Terry Dillard and Fredia Fuller Dillard (her daughter) had been to visit her and Jesse at around 6:00 pm at Southerland Place, the assisted living facility where they had moved on 02/08/02. She wasn't hungry at supper, and was uncomfortable, constantly wanting to get up and then lay down. We received the first of a series of calls from her nurse at about 8:30 that evening, saying that she was uncomfortable and couldn't get settled. We left our house at about 9:00. By the time we got there, she had died (approximately 9:10). This was completely unexpected, as even with her being unable to get settled, we had not expected her death.
At the funeral a friend brought a jar of Creamy Jif Peanut Butter, saying that Marie had always told her to put a jar in the casket with her, because she (Marie) would get hungry. This was placed in the casket, and she was buried with it.
