"Mrs. Betsey Otis, whose good memory made it possible to trace our line, died on her eighty-seventh birthday, Jan. 23, 1907. Elisha Sackett was the youngest of four children, and was born the year his father died. Widow Sackett, a short time after
the death of her husband, removed with her four young children to New York City. She owned a house at the corner of Chambers Street and West Broadway, with a garden, and a pasture lot adjoining on which she kept a cow. There is some uncertainty as to whether she inherited this property from her husband or her father. It is a matter of record that her daughter (1710) Margaret, not yet quite sixteen years of age, was married there June 6, 1790, Truman Merchant, aged 26. Previous to 1812 this property seems to have come into possession of her youngest child, Elisha, the subject of this sketch, who at his death in 1839 was survived by nine

2607. Robert Sackett, son of Daniel and his wife Nancy Fulton Sackett, was born at Brighton, Monroe Co., N. Y., Jan. 22, 1819. He lived with his parents at Brighton and Pittsford, N. Y., until his marriage with Miss Alura Jane Smith, of Hindsburgh, Orleans Co., N. Y., Aug. 18, 1845; he then bought a farm adjoining his father's and resided there until 1854; he then went to Michigan and bought a farm in Ekford, Calhoun County, which place he made his home, until his death, in 1873, aged 54 years. He was a successful farmer, was ducated in the village school of Pittsford and the Wesleyan Seminary, at Lima, N. Y. Was modest, unassuming, and always a gentleman. Some of his traits of character showed his Puritan ancestry, one of which was this: In disposing of a crop of barley, he waas obliged to deliver it to the brewery; coming in direct contact with the liquor traffice[sic] displeased him so much that he never raised any more, although the crop was a paying one. He was a strictly temperate man, never using tobacco in any form, and used to say he had never taken a drink at a "bar" in his life. Was a member of the Methodist Episcipal Church, an active, earnest worker in the cause of Christianity; a living exponent of the faith in which he so devoutedly believed, and which he so honestly and persistently advocated; was know throughout the community as one od the foremost leaders in the cause of religion, maorality and good government.
