Greetings Listers!

Saw the post regarding the Goodrich family in Clarkson and Ogden and it reminded me of my Ann B. Lee autograph album- no sorry- not Goodrich but Mercy Goodridge and her mother Amanda Goodridge both wrote a few lines. In addition, there are entries written by the following people. If anyone is interested in these families, I have scanned each page and would be happy to send it on to you. Hope you can find your family here!

Ann B. Lee, Orinda Jane Lee (these are my husband's ancestors), E.N.Fuller Bergen, Emma K. Davis Bergen, G. (or J) B.H., M.B. Craig Clarkson, D.K. Fuller Bergen, Sarah A. Johnson, another G or J B. H. and underneath it says Burns, Martha M. Pierson Churchville NY, D Fuller Bergen, (this next one is totally a guess) Kate Weed or Wend, A.B. North Bergen, Eliza E. Gillette, Mercy Goodridge and Amanda Goodridge Ogden, Palmer C Lee, Charlotte M. Sackett, George Lee Clarkson, Melissa Sackett East Bergen, initials that look like S.F.T Churchville, C.E. Smith Sweden, C.E.S. Sweden (same person as previous), A.E. Camp Clarkson, S.S. Sackett, William Hodson.

The entry by Mercy Goodridge also has a drawing of a flower that looks to be done in colored pencils (although I don't know if they had colored pencils then) and it is absolutely beautiful. Would love to find a Goodridge relative who might like a copy. A few months after I received this album, I happened by the cemetery on Colby Road in Ogden and stopped to look around. There I found Mercy and Amanda- it was like finding family!

Hi, I just found your website with the information on
the Sacketts, and I thought I had better tell you this. On this site,
http://freepages.books.rootsweb.com/~teking/sackett30/pafg90.htm#12839
You have Amanda Nichols as the daughter of Rilah (Riley) and Martha
(Huntley) Nichols. Amanda was actually Rilah's sister (she is my
gggrandmother).

Amanda was born 14 Apr. 1829 in Schroon Lake, NY, and died 21 May 1915
(I have a copy of her death certificate, and it lists her parents as
Levi Nichols and Phebe Sackett. She died in Hudson Falls, NY. She IS
buried in the Adirondack Cemetery with her first husband, Joseph Gregory
(my gggrandfather). They are buried next to Rilah and Martha. Sometime
after Joseph's death in 1864, she married a William Virgil (William was
Rilah's neighbor, according to the 1880 census).

I know of three children for Rilah, according to various censuses. They
were Seth H., b. Mar. 1852, Eleanor (?Ella), b. abt. 1858, and Mary, b.
abt. 1869. There was a gap between all of the children so there were
probably more.

Levi and Phebe (Sackett) Nichols had at least two more sons (according
to census records) but I haven't been able to pinpoint exactly who they
were. I believe one of them to be Aaron Sackett Nichols, who was born in
1817 in Rutland, VT (this is where Levi lived at that time), and the
other I believe to be Nathan, b. abt. 1819 (Nathan Nichols m. Joseph
Gregory's sister, Matilda). I haven't been able to find the exact
information I need to prove that they do belong to them, but the
coincidences with their births (VT), and A. S. Nichols' name make me
speculate.

Thanks. Have a great day!

I found Amanda's name in one record with Joseph giving her name as
Harriet Amanda, but that was the ONLY place I have ever seen it. Her
death certificate says her name was Amanda H.:

Her death certificate, No. 131,lists her date of death as 21 May 1915 at
Hudson Falls, NY; full name at time of death was Amanda H. Virgil;
widow; b. 14 Apr. 1829; aged 86; birthplace, Schroon; father's name:
Levi Nichols, b. in Vermont; mother's name, Phoebe Sackett, b. in
Wallingford, Vermont; informant: Mrs. Emma Scott; buried at Adirondack,
NY, 23 May 1915; Undertaker: Rogers & Carleton; certificate filed with
registrar, 23 May 1915; cause of death, cancer of the tongue.

200. William Sackett-12720 (Aaron , Josiah Crego , Richard , Jonathan , John , John ) was born on 2 Sep 1800 in CT.. He died on 29 Jul 1863.

son of (714?) Aaron, was born near Rutland, Vt.

In 1839 he removed to Rochester, NY., and the following year from thence to Eden Township, La Grange County, Ind, wher he settled permanently, on what has since become known as the Sackett Homestead Farm.

12720. William Sackett, 1800-1862, son of (714?) Aaron, was born near Rutland, Vt.; was married,
Sept. 3, 1828, to Mercy Sleade Earle, 1808-1867, a distant relative. In 1839 he removed to Rochester, NY., and the following year from thence to Eden Township, La Grange County, Ind, wher he settled permanently, on what has since become known as the Sackett Homestead Farm. [Weygant page 491]
------------------------------
There is a question as to the place of birth for William. Weygant gives it as Rutland, VT. The 1850 census [given below] gives his place of birth as CT. However, his birth is not found in the Barbour Collection of Vital Records. [This needs more research]

In Weygant's account above, he seems to say that William moved from VT. to Rochester, NY in 1839. However, the 1850 Census below indicates that William was living in NY in 1834 when John E. was born and was also in NY in 1836 when George E. was born. According to Weygant's information it would appear that William moved from NY to IN in the year 1840. Therefore he could have been enumerated in either state in that census. - T. King

In 1839, he removed to Rochester, N.Y. and the following year from thence to Eden Township, La Grange County, Indiana, where he settled permanently on what has since become known as the Sackett Homestead Farm. According to his grandson, Schuyler Sackett of Ligonier, Indiana, family lore has it that his wife was quite well-to-do whereas he inherited no money or property at all. He judges that this is true because of the fact that she left a quantity of excellent old furniture and so on which could only have been owned by someone who had means in those pioneer days. Apparently this led to some friction in the family. There was nothing overt but one day William, when he was in his forties, quietly walked out of the house and his family never saw him again. They did learn that he died at Logansport, Indiana in 1864. - [Andrew P. Sackett]
