He was by occupation a farmer. In 1829, he, with his father-in-law, settled at Redford, Wayne Co., Mich., and at one time conducted a saw mill at Dearborn, in same county. At the breaking out of the "California gold fever" in 1849, he determined to try his fortune as a gold hunter, and accordingly joined a company that journeyed on foot over the intervening country to the gold fields, where he located a claim. But he soon tired of the rough life of the miners' camp, and abandoning his claim made his way back to his home in Wayne County, Mich., where he died in January, 1856, and was buried by the side of his wife, who had died the previous month. - [Weygant, p. 263, 370-371]
