|Joshua Cox, with his
parents Nathan Cox and Margaret Elizabeth Cantrell moved
from MO down through AR, crossed the Red River to settle in
Fannin Co, TX about 1837. Josh and his parents were part
of a large group of settlers traveling together which included
his grandfather William Cox, Sr.
Josh grew up and married (about 1851 Fannin Co. TX) Nancy Jane Cantrell (b.July 26, 1834 MO), daughter of Charles Cantrell, Jr (b.1786) and Naomi Oma Cox .

Joshua Cox aged 108 passed away at 2am April 1 at the home of P. A. Whipkey after an illness of several days. Death was due principally to old age. Grandpa Cox was born in Fayette Co., MO. Dec. 29 1823 (1833). He came to this section of the state in 1860, residing in the Dry Frio vicinity. He was one of the early pioneers of this region, and contributed his part in blazing the trail for progress and development. At the age of 40 he became a Christian uniting with the Christian Church. For several years he has made his home with his granddaughter, Mrs. P. A. Whipkey. His wife preceded him in death a few years ago. To mourn his departure Mr. Cox leaves several grandchildren and great grandchildren and other relatives. Funeral services were conducted Tuesday afternoon by Rev. J. H. Perkins internment being made in Barksdale Cemetery.
