Hello Leonard,
I was able to get into the library today and do a search of the newspapers. Had another request to do so figure I would combine them and make one trip.
First, I was not able to locate an obit on George in the Vancouver, Washington paper at all. I prowled the newspapers from May 24th to July 15th, and nothing appeared locally. I then went to our genealogy library and looked at a death index microfich and found what I believe is his listing. (I had tried Ancestry.com while at the library and am sure glad I don't pay them, as they had no listing except the SSDI. I have no idea why but this is not the first time I have encountered this situation with them.)
I did go to the society cemetery index books and located him and a wife buried in Mountain View Cemetery in La Center Washington. (A very nice place behind an old church, well kept grounds.) If you are interested in a photo of the markers I can drive out there on a good day with my digital camera and take them and send as email attachments.
What I found on the fiche was the following information

ssdi - not listed [but you already have that anyway]

lived - Walla Walla City, Washington

Now for some interesting information I beleive along with that. While looking at the fiche I looked for the wife that was listed in the cemetery index book, and located her data also.

I went back to the library and located an obit on her along with a paid death notice which I am attaching to this email.
What I believe from reading the obit on Mary is that George was staying/visiting the son in College Park Washington at the time of his death. There may have been an obit written in a newspaper there if he had been with the son for any length of time after his wife passed away. These obits might be a little bit dark, I hope not too bad. If you cannot read them let me know and I will type them up in an email. Also, if you would like the paper copies I have here that I've scanned I am very willing to snail mail them to you.
One more item possibly of interest, not sure. While reviewing the fiche I happened across a listing for a Levi Park, this may not have a connection, but I figured I would copy off the data just the same.

Not sure how much help I have been to you. When I work on Tuesday at the genealogy library I will see if I can locate any other data on George and Mary in the rest of our bookd for Clark county and let you know if I find anything.

There is a website out there called RAOGK, Random Acts of Genealogical Kindness, at <http://www.raogk.org/> where you might find a volunteer to do a lookup in a newspaper or other record in that area.
