Lucy Ann Temple (nee Crouch)

 

Lucy Ann Crouch 5 (Richard 4, John 3, Richard 2, Richard 1), born Richmond, VA May 1832, died May 31st, 1899; married, Major Robert Henry (Robert) TEMPLE who was born Sep 1831 in Spotsylvania, VA. In Aug 1850 he was a student in Spotsylvania Co., VA. In 1852 he was a rodman on the New Orleans, 'Jackson and Great Northern Railway'. He served in the military between 1861 and 1865. In the Nitre and Mining Bureau of the War department of the CSA, with the rank of Major. Received his parole 12 Jun 1865 after having surrendered to Gen. E. Kirby Smith at Shreveport, LA. In Jun 1880 he was a civil engineer in Richmond, VA. In 1889/90 he was a Civil Engineer and Chief Engineer, Georgia Pacific Railroad in Richmond, VA. The town of Temple, GA, was named for him. In Jun 1900 he was a civil engineer in Richmond, VA.

He died on 22 Dec 1901 in Spotsylvania Co., VA. His obituary said he died in his home in Richmond, but other reports say he died in Spotsylvania county. Buried in Hollywood Cemetery, Richmond, Richmond, VA. His parents were both from VA. His obituary said, "He was principal assistant in the work of building the great bridges over the Missouri River at St. Charles and Kansas City, and over the Ohio at Cincinnati.

"In 1879 and 1880 Major Temple was General Superintendent of the Greenville and Columbia Railroad; 1880-1881, Chief Engineer of the Richmond and Allegheny; 1881-1886, Chief Engineer of the Georgia Pacific Railway; 1887-1888, Chief Engineer of the Memphis, Birmingham and Atlantic and of the Tennessee Midland Railway, and his last prominent professional employment was in the construction as Chief Engineer of the Georgia, Carolina and Northern Railway, the Atlanta extension of the Seaboard system.

"He was born in Spottsylvania County, VA, in September 1831. During the civil war he was connected with the engineering department of the Confederate Government, being stationed in Texas." Parents: Benjamin TEMPLE and Lucy Lilly ROBINSON.

Spouse: Lucy Ann (Lucy) CROUCH. Major Robert Henry (Robert) TEMPLE and Lucy Ann (Lucy) CROUCH were married after Aug 1850 in VA. Children were: John Twohig (Twohig) TEMPLE.
