Charles B. Crouch 6 (Bernard S. 5, Thomas Harris 4, John 3, Richard 2, Richard 1), born between January and July 1856 in Richmond City, Henrico County, Virginia. Married Hannah A. Hughes born in 1862 in Canada, the daughter of David W. and Elizabeth Hughes on August 10, 1885. [2] In 1892 he lived at 209 Mayo St. per the Richmond, VA City Directory- Vol. 1.
The children of Charles B. Crouch and Hannah A. Hughes were:
1. Bernard W. Crouch 7, born 1882; died May 21, 1888 [4]2. John C. Crouch 7 born 1890 [1]; died __-__; married Vlasta Paul on March 3, 1913 in Richmond City, VA. She was born 1895 in Wisconsin, the daughter of Frank A and Mary Paul. [3]
There's a discrepancy between the 1900 Census for the age fo Charles B. Crouch 6 and his age on the marriage records for he and Hannah A. Hughs. And on the 1900 census for Charles B. Crouch below the census record plainly says his father Bernard's middle initial was A. in lieu of S. I know the S stands for 'Spotswood' and is correct. Is this Bernard A. Crouch the same Bernard that shows up in the 1870 Henrico County, VA census records? Then there's the Charles B. Crouch in the 1920 Richmond Census below. The 1920 census was enumerated on the 5th & 6th of January 1920 at which time Charles B. Crouch's age was 63. Adding 40 years to the age of the Charles B. Crouch in the 1880 Henrico County, VA census record for Bernard S. Crouch's son puts his age in 1920 at 62 or at least a year younger given when the two census's were enumerated. Then there's the issue of a possible 2nd marriage if they're all the same Charles B. Crouch and why was the above Charles B. Crouch not listed in the 1920 Census with his wife Hannah?
Of interest is one family file found on Rootsweb.com that lists a 'Charles Byrd Crouch' as the 'Charles B. Crouch' living in Richmond City, VA. in the 1920 Census. It also lists a 'William Crouch' as the son 'Willie Crouch' from the 1920 Census, along with another son Charles Byrd Crouch, Jr. born June 1, 1917. which seems to match the 1920 Census Record below. Then there's the information on Findagrave.com for this same "'Charles Byrd Crouch' age 64 yers of Luray died 19 May 1981. Born 01 June 1917 in Richmond s/o the late Charles & Minnie Caldwell Crouch. Married 04 Nov 1926 Emma Wampler. Served in the US Marine Cors during WWII. Son, Charles B. Crouch Jr. of Fairfax. Brother, Bernard Crouch of Port Chester. One granddaughter. Burial in Evergreen Cemetery." Emma Lydia "Maw" Crouch, born June 27, 1912 - died June 26, 2008. As the above listed 'Bernard W. Crouch' ( son of Charles B. Crouch and Hannah Hughes) died at the age of 6 years, it does seem possible that a second child would have been named Bernard.
