The Virginia Marriage Records 1775-1779 - documents the marriage of William Edwards and Gazelle Ghee - Cumberland County, Virginia.  "Marriage records, 1749-1840, Cumberland County, Virginia" by Katherine Blackwell Elliott on page 47 states:

Based upon below, the above cited marriage record has led genealogical researhers down a genealogical rabbit hole with Gazelle Ghee stated as being the wife of William Edwards born abt 1758 Cumberland Co., VA. and dying before Dec 1803 when his Estate Apprasil was entered into Cumberland County, VA court records.  The genealogical rabbit hole is based on the following:

A 10th of August 1807 Cumberland Co., VA land indenture between David M. Randolph of Henrico Co., VA. and Carter Page of Cumberland Co., VA. and the legal heirs of William Edwards decd. that is to say:  Nehemiah Edwards, Ann Edwards, William Edwards, Gideon Edwards, Bernard Edwards and Mary & G. (Gracy) Edwards children of the aforesaid William Edwards decd. of the other part in consideration for the sum of fifteen hundred dollars paid in hand by William Edwards decd. in his lifetime and partly by the hands of Grizzle Edwards administratrix of the aforesaiid William Edwards decd., the receipt of which is acknowledged by David Randolph and Carter Page have bargained and sold on tract of land containing 257 acres lying on both sides of Willis Creek, formerly the property of Archibald Cary decd.

An 1827 Cumberland Co., VA. Chancery court suit wherein it refers to Grizzle Edwards multiple times as the wife of William Edwards deceased, and the document then proceeded to list the children / grandchild of William Edwards and Grizzle Ghee.   I had assumed that Gazelle Ghee had predeceased her husband William Edwards because of the bad marriage record transcription, and that Willilam Edwards mother had been confused in the lawsuit with his wife 24 years after the death of William Edwards.  (PDF of the orig. An 1832 Cumberland Co., VA land indenture by Bernard Edwards 1785-1877 and his wife Martha of Todd County, KY. sold his 1/7th of the land from the 1827 Cumberland Co., VA. Chancery Court suit referenced above he'd inherited from his father Wm. Edwards deceased and sold it to his brother William Edwards 1781-Dec 1846, the land being part of his mother Mrs. Gillie Edwards holdings left from William Edwards, Senr's estate..  Gillie being a nickname for Grizzle & it's anglicized given name Grace.

Depending upon the source, the 1820 Cumberland Co., VA U.S. census record was transcribed on Ancestry and FamilySearch as Gozzle Edwards age 45 and over.  The 1830 Cumberland Co., VA U.S. census record (jpg of record) was transcribed on Ancestry as Gorggle Edwards and on FamilySearch as Giffle Edwards, age 70 to 80.  1830 minus 70 years puts a birth year of between 1750 to 1760, and assuming Grizzle Ghee was 18 when she married, then 1779 minus 18 years of age gives a birth year as 1761.  The 1830 census record is one year before the 1761date, so a birth year of 1760 for Grizzle Edwards 1760-aft 1830 is estimated.  Below are the various script for Grizzle Edwards, formerly known as Gazzle Ghee.   I had orginially thought the 1827 Chancery Court document referred to Grizzel (Coleman) Edwards, but she would have been 90 to 100 years old in the 1830 census if she was still alive, not the recorded 70-80 years of age in the 1830 U.S. census record.
