Mary Elizabeth Schneiter, born October 24, 1923 in Tuscarawas County, Ohio; died Christmas Day, December 25, 2002 at the age of 79 in Phoenix, Arizona. She moved to Tucson, Arizona in 1939 at a young age due to bronchial respiratory health problems  She was the daughter of Fred and Elise Schneiter (nee Lengacher), natives of Canton Bern, Switzerland.

She graduated from Tucson High School in 1942 with honors. After a few years of employment with Haskell Linen Supply in Tucson, Mary attended the University of Arizona, graduating in 1950 with distinguished honors within three years of her enrollment. She obtained a B.S. degree in Education.

Mary was a pioneer in the education field as she and her classmates clamored and petitioned for the opportunity to obtain classroom experience within the scope of their coursework prior to their own graduation. As Miss Schneiter, she taught second grade in Benson and Tucson, Arizona during the 1950's.

After an extensive courtship and engagement, Mary Elizabeth married William Lloyd Franklin on June 8, 1956. He was born February 17, 1926. She continued her profession of teaching until the birth of her first child in 1958. She taught kindergarten from 1970 to 1973 in Phoenix.

A Memorial Service was held to celebrate her life on Saturday, January 11, 2003 at 11:00 in the morning at the Shepherd of the Hills UCC Church, 5524 East Lafayette Boulevard, Phoenix.  William Llyod Franklin died August 29, 2008 at 82 years of age.
