SOURCES:
Jacob and Elizabeth resided in Reading Twp., Perry Co., OH from 1812 to 1843. Jacob and Elizabeth Stine came from Perry Co., OH in 1843, to Lee Co., IA, to accept guardianship of their daughter Catherine Stine Heck's orphaned sons [Alexander age 3 and Jacob Heck age 2]. And the next year John Stine went to Lee Co., IA with his family to help his parents with the two little boys. It should be noted that after Jacob and Elizabeth assumed guardianship of their two young grandsons, their surnames was listed as Stine in some records.

After Jacob died, Elizabeth first lived in the John Stine household [she is shown on the 1856 Lee Co., IA State Census in this household], but in the 1860 Scotland Co., MO Federal Census she was living in the household of John Houtz and Mary Ann Stine Houtz. Also in the 1870 Scotland Co., MO Federal Census she is living in the Houtz household [she is listed as 80 years old and having been born in NJ]. In the 1860 Census, listed above her is Jacob Stine age 17, occupation engineer. We had thought this to be our Jacob Stine, now that I am aware of Jacob Heck son of George Heck and Catherine Stine Heck [whose name was listed as Stine in some records] I suspect this is not our Jacob Stine. Our Jacob was most likely living in his father's household.
