Daniel J. Prickitt, the son of Japheth L. and Phoebe Borton Prickitt was born near Lumberton, Clinton County, Ohio, on 8/15/1840. In 1845 the family moved to Lucas County, Ohio, near the present day Fayette, Fulton County, Ohio. Japheth farmed here until 1850 when he again moved, this time to the village of West Unity, Williams County, Ohio. At West Unity he was a druggist and later operated a saw mill. In 1866 father Japheth purchased and moved to a small farm northeast of West Unity, Brady Township, Williams Co. Ohio. Daniel, the eldest of 9 children, was educated in the common schools of Fulton and Williams Counties and attended the Reading Valley Seminary. At the age of 16 Daniel was teaching school in Springfield Township, Wms. Co., OH, and later taught school near Palmyra, Missouri. In Aug. of 1861 Daniel and brother James enlisted in Co. H, 3OVC. During October of 1862 Daniel and brother James were captured near Bardstown, JY. They were paroled, exchanged, and returned to Co. H and served with that unit until discharged in Aug 1865. On release from the army Daniel returned home where in Oct. he married Lydia G. Borton, dtr. of Benjamon and Abigail W. Borton of Fulton Co., Ohio. Daniel and Lydia lived, farmed and eventually became owners of father Benjamin Borton's Fulton County farm. Daniel and Lydia were the parents of 8 children. Lydia died in 1922 and Daniel in 1927. Both are buried in the Friends Cemetery, Brady Twp, Wms. Co, OH
