Mar. 1 1865 Coporal Frederick on a twenty days furlough, his house is some fifty miles south of here, He thinks by travelling nights, he will be able to get home, Has not heard from home since he enlisted in our Company, June 29- 1862, Privates Mohler, *Shively and *Saam present for duty from absent prisoners of war. Mar. 5 " Corpl. Bixby and privates Kennedy, Reed, Rinehamer and Farrier Mc Fadden absent detached with dismounted command. Mar. 6 " Private Goss present for duty from abst, at the river. Sent letter to *Sam Currie, Sent letter home - March 4th 57 Corporal Bixby and private Clark, Kennedy and Fred, Rinehamer present for duty from abst detached. Mar.18 " Corporal Frederick present for duty from absent on twenty days furlough, Private James *Saslei (sic) joined the Company as recruit. Mar. 20 " Private Volke detached " 21 " Boats have arrived with suppiles, which is being issued to the different regiments, Our brigade and division as now organized is 1st Brigade, 17th and 72d Indiana 98 and 123d Ill. under command of Col. Miller, the brigade used to be Wilders brigade of mounted infantry, the 2nd brigade our brigade 3d and 4th Ohio Cavalry, 4th Mich, Cav and 7th Pennsylvania Cav, and the Chicago Board of Trade battery. The brigade commanded by Col. Minty and Division by Gen Long. Mar.22 " Comd marched 5 am southward crossed the Memphis and Charleston railroad at Cherokee Station 10 am eight miles from Chickasaw. Marched about 12 miles from the railroad and camped for the night on the Russellvile road. Mar.23 " Revillee at 3 am , Started by 6 on the Russellville road, passed though Frankfort 3 pm, camped 58 near the town, marched 15 miles, Mar. 24" Marched 5 am still on the Russellville road. Passed thriugh R. 9 am and took the Pikeville road. Marched five miles on the road and camped. Made 14 miles today, passed thrugh fair farming country today, plenty of forage. Captured a few rebs today. The weather quite pleasant. Mar. 25 " Started by 5 am on the Jasper road, our Company went with Corporal Frederick to his house on the Pikesville road 16 miles from our last nights camp, arrived at his home 3 pm and remained over night,- Pleasant weather but the roads very muddy.
