Lydia was born at
Sullivan Co., Indiana, on 27 April 1833. She was the daughter of
Samuel Douglas and
Sarah Jewell. She married
James Ewing Chesnut at
Sullivan Co., Indiana, on 17 December 1857. Lydia died on 7 March 1912 at
Duck Creek Twp., Wilson Co., Kansas, at age 78. From the 12 March 1912 "Fredonia Herald"
Lydia Ann Douglas was born April 27, 1833 in Sullivan Co., Indiana and passed away Thursday, March 7, 1912.
She was married to J.E. Chesnut in January 1854, and to their union was born seven children. Two preceded their mother to the other world. The five children living came to the home place at her home going. They are: Mrs. Nanie McKinley, Bartlesville, Oklahoma; Mrs. Emma Barber, Chanute; Mrs. Alice Bolinger, Shelburn, Ind; W.E. Chesnut, Fredonia and S.E. Chesnut of Lafontaine. She also leaves a husband and three sisters.
Mr. and Mrs. Chesnut moved to Kansas in 1879 and settled in Duck Creek Twp. this county and have made that place their home ever since. Mrs. Chesnut was a strong woman until about two years ago when her health began to fail. A fall about two weeks ago hastened the end. She united with Christ at the age of fifteen and has been a Faithful Christian through all the years.
Funeral services were held at the Christian church at Buxton Saturday and interment was made in the Bachelder cemetery.. Her body was interred on 9 March 1912 at
Fredonia, Wilson Co., Kansas, at Bachelder Cemetery.
