Emeline was born at
Ozark, Franklin Co., Arkansas. She was the daughter of
Oberton Bettis Alston and
Emeline Pace. She married
Henry Don Stroup at
Franklin Co., Arkansas, on 8 November 1875. Emeline died at
Berryville, Carroll Co., Arkansas. From a Berryville newspaper clipping:
"Mrs. Emma Alston Stroup, age 87, mother of Rev. H.A. Stroup, pastor of the local Methodist church, died here early Monday morning following a long illness. She sustained a broken hip in a fall last August, since then she has been an invalid. Burial was in the Odd Fellows cemetery here Tuesday afternoon following services from the Nelson Funeral Home under the direction of Rev. G.G. Davidson.
Mrs. Stroup, widow of the late Henry D. Stroup, was born at Ozark where the family lived several years before moving to Conway. She was the mother of 11 children, five of whom survive: Rev. Stroup, Mrs. Eula Lewis of Durant, OK, Mrs. Mae Hall, Las Vegas, NV, Mrs. Sula Dickerson and Mrs. Sadie Garside, both of Oklahoma City, also one brother Lee Alston of Shawnee, OK; fifteen grand-children. Six of her grandsons are serving in the U.S. Forces, also one son-in-law.". Her body was interred at
Berryville, Carroll Co., Arkansas, at Odd Fellows Cemetery.
