Thomas was born at
Gwynedd Twp., Montgomery Co., Pennsylvania, on 2 September 1853. He was the son of
Beezon Baynes and
Lowry Humphreys. He married
Rebecca Roberts Powell at
Clifton Heights, Delaware Co., Pennsylvania, on 29 March 1877. He migrated in 1877. Thomas worked four years for an uncle near Plymouth, Pennsylvania.. Thomas was listed as the head of a family on the 1900 Census at
Washington Twp., Washington Co., Indiana. He moved in September 1919 at
Crawfordsville, Montgomery Co., Indiana. He was land contract on 23 December 1919 at
Union Twp., Montgomery Co., Indiana; Thomas Baynes purchased 23.36 acres of land from Amos M. and Viola A. Hayes for $5100. He lived on this land until he moved into Crawfordsville. After he moved into town, his daughter Helen and her husband Charles McDonald lived there until 1923. In the summer of 1923, Shirl Dellinger, Thomas Baynes' son-in-law started renting the farm from Thomas Baynes. On 28 April 1930, Thomas sold this land to his son-in-law, Shirl Dellinger for $1 and the assumption of a $1000 mortgage. Thomas was listed as the head of a family on the 1920 Census at
Crawfordsville, Montgomery Co., Indiana. He lived in 1922 at
Crawfordsville, Montgomery Co., Indiana; Lived at 101 Grace Ave. He attended a meeting at
Crawfordsville, Montgomery Co., Indiana, on 1 July 1934. He and
Margaret "Margie" Lowry Baynes lived in November 1935; Thomas Baynes and his daughter Margie lived with Thomas' son, Joseph from Nov. 1935 to March 1936. Thomas died on 3 September 1938 at
Crawfordsville, Montgomery Co., Indiana, at age 85. His body was interred on 5 September 1938 at
Union Twp., Montgomery Co., Indiana, at Oak Hill Cemetery. From the Crawsfordville Journal Review, dated about 6 September 1938:

Impressive Services Conducted
Burial Made At Oak Hill
Impressive funeral services for Thomas P. Baynes, 85, who died Saturday, were conducted Monday afternoon from the Proffitt and Sons funeral home in charge of Rev. Lena H. Williams, a Friends minister. Burial was made in Oak Hill cemetery.
'Jesus Lover of My Soul' and 'Abide With Me' were sung by Mrs. Ernest Breaks, accompanied at the organ by Miss Iva Reynolds.
Pallbearers were; two sons, Joseph Baynes of Bloomington and Beezon Baynes of Salem; a stepson (actually an adopted son), Theodore Baynes of this city, and three grandsons, Eugene, Hartley and Robert Dellinger, of this city. Flower bearers were Millicent Baynes and Valverta and Shirley Dellinger.
Mr. Baynes died at 6 o'clock Saturday night at the home of a daughter, Mrs. Shirl Dellinger on R.F.D. 4 Crawfordsville. He had been ill two weeks with infirmities of old age.
Mr. Baynes was born Sept. 2, 1853, the son of Beezon and Lowry Baynes and was married March 27, 1877, to Rebecca Powell. The deceased was a member of the Friends church.
Surviving in addition to the two sons and the stepson, who were pallbears, are another son, Walter P. Baynes of Houston, Tex; three daughters, Mrs. Helen McDonald of Seymour, Miss Margaret Baynes of Bloomington and Mrs. Rebecca Dellinger of near this city; a brother Isaac Baynes of Salem, 27 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren."
From another newspaper article, probably from the Crawfordsville Journal Review comes the following:
"Thomas Baynes Dies Saturday In Crawfordsville
Funeral rites for Thomas Baynes, who died Saturday night at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Shirl Dellinger, Crawfordsville, were held at two o'clock Monday by a Friends minister, Mrs. Leona Hobson Williams, of Darlington, with burial at Oak Hill Cemetery.
Mr. Baynes was a birthright member of the Friends Church. His death leaves Isaac Baynes, Salem, the sole survivor of children born to Beezon and Lowery Baynes.
Mr. Baynes, born in Pennslvania, passed his eighty-fifth birthday anniversary September second. Successful farmer and exemplary citizen, of Washington County, he established residence in Crawfordsville, September 1919.
The wife Rebecca Poweel Baynes died in August 1935.
Survivors are three sons, Walter, Houston, Texas; Joe, Bloomington; Beezon, Salem; and adopted son, Theodore Baynes, Crawfordsville; three daughters, Mrs. Dellinger, Mrs. Helen McDonald, Seymour, Miss Margie Baynes, Bloomington, and one brother Isaac Baynes.".
