Sarah was born at
Searcy, White Co., Arkansas, on 23 June 1888. She was the daughter of
Henry Don Stroup and
Emeline Della Alston. She married
Benjamin Garside at
Mulberry, Crawford Co., Arkansas, on 1 December 1907. Sarah died on 27 December 1970 at
LaPuenta, Los Angeles Co., California, at age 82. In November of 1970, while fixing breakfast, Sarah's sleeve of her robe caught on fire. Before the flames could be extinguished, she had third degree burns on her left arm and armpit. Because it didn't hurt too bad, she didn't see a doctor for a week, by which time gangrene had set in. She was hospitalized for three weeks. Upon her release her son Almus, sold her house and flew her to California with him. Her daughter Anna accompanied her. Shortly after arriving in California Sarah died.. Her body was interred in December 1970 at
LaPuenta, Los Angeles Co., California.
