A Boy Cousin - a hard back book by Geraldine Mockler. Plate inside from the Zion Congregational Church Sunday School, Felling, (near Tyne & Wear) dated December 1903 or 1908 presented to Thomas Foster for regular attendance.
The Poetical Works of John Keats, hardback book printed 1887. Has two names written inside (1) E A Bloomfield 1888 (2) A S Burgess 1901. Much annotated and containing many hand written inserts and newspaper clippings.
(a) A handwritten poem signed HB and dated 20.4.1873
(b)Hand written note:
Miss Rita Morris
Rita my sweet your lovely smile hath me enchanted! I know not what to do or say! Your comely form has charmed my heart and, my soul has felt the solace in your eyes, and the music of your voice, and I rejoice. Signed ASB Xmas 1953.
(c) Another hand written note:
My last letter was given to her at 491 Commonside East, Mitcham on the 20 January 1954 at her request. She being about 30 and I, 75 but connected with this is an interesting event. During our short acquaintance she would never allow me to write to her by post and would never tell me where she lived. So on the afternoon of the 20th January I thought I would go out for a walk as I felt very sad, so meandered down a road in the direction where I thought I might meet her and as I walked I prayed to God to lead me to her. When I got to the end of the road I met a young man who said he remembered me as going to the chapel. I asked him if he knew where Rita lived. He said no but said he knew her and quite suddenly he said there she is, and so I made a dash to greet her. She was very surprised and not pleased. However we had our parting shot? and kissed her hand good bye. Now isn't that a clear (answer) to prayer. The number of my home is 194 and hers a short distance away has the numbers reversed 491. Strange isn't it.
(d) Two newspaper clippings relating to London-born film actress Patricia Medina
(e) several poems and articles about poets from a publication called 'Great Thoughts'
These photos, photo albums, wedding invitations, letters, etc etc below are in a junk/antique shop in London, and I thought it would be nice to try and reunite them with their families. I've had some success. This is what is left:-
I've done some tracing on the 1881-1901 censuses and IGI for these people. Click on the links to see the results.
